A few days later, we were able to accompany Scott for a work trip to Charleston, SC. This is becoming a family favorite- reasonable drive, a great hotel in walking distance to lots of activities, and a variety of great restaurants. We've always enjoyed spending time together in Charleston. Some favorites are walking across the bridge, the aquarium, the childrens museum, and a new favorite Cupcake bakery. Also a new fav restaurant is Hyman's Seafood- the boys tasted everything and ate like we'd starved them for days- impressive for Mannix who has been super picky lately! The boys and I entertained ourselves while Scott was at work, spending one morning at the Childrens Museum and the other just lounging in the hotel. We spent the afternoons together and went on two adventures. We explored the USS Yorktown and went to the aquarium! While we were visiting the Yorktown, we talked with Scotts parents and found out Scott's uncle, Bill, was stationed on the USS Yorktown for over a year. During his stint, Scotts parents and grandma were aboard the USS Yorktown for a day trip on a Family Day outing. Pat said he was one of the last people to get motion sick and barf off the side.
Connor and I went down into the submarine...a new experience for me. How can people spend time underwater on subs? So cramped! The sub had mannequins scattered in a few rooms showing jobs, like captain, cook, engineers, and showing passage ways between levels. Connor didn't like the more cramped engine rooms, probably because they had alarm like noises going off, but he liked jumping through the port holes between spaces. I liked the medical room, but couldn't imagine being sick on a ship like that. Such a different lifestyle!
Who can resist a good aquarium? This is a very nice family friendly aquarium, with lots to see but not too overwhelming. Here are some of my favorite photos. A new addition to the aquarium are four adorable penguins! We loved watching them swim and dive- Mannix kept trying to kiss them!
Scott gave us lessons in poisonous snakes vs. friendly safe snakes. I don't plan to ever get close enough to see if their pupils are round or slits!
I liked the albino turtles and Connor liked the sea turtles (like in Nemo)! After our fun in Charleston, we headed home to start taking down Christmas decorations and preparing for Mannix's birthday and birthday party! Photos to come soon.
