The day started early with check in at 6 am, iv, consenting for cord blood donation, visits from family, and then the countdown. Our same L&D nurse from Connor's delivery was at my side (Bonnie), who helped make sure everything was on track, and held my hand when Scott wasn't in the room. The OR room was Freezing, but after a well placed spinal, I didn't notice! Everything went perfectly, and I was even able to watch some of the surgery reflected in the OR light above me. Mannix came out easily and started crying immediately, Apgar 9 and 9, and quieted down once he got warmed up. Scott and Mannix joined me in the recovery room for some snuggling before we introduced him to the family (Denis, Mary, Melissa, and Sarah).
We then moved to a postpartum room and started the process of adjusting to our new life:) We have had many visits from family and friends and look forward to showing Mannix off tomorrow to Scott's parents.
Mannix's favorite visitor so far has been his big brother Connor. We had tried to prepare for the new arrival as much as we thought a toddler could appreciate, with lots of comments about brothers, putting the baby items out around the house to get used to, and books about babies. Connor had just woken from a nap, so was a bit standoffish at first. He was not very amused when Maw Maw and Paw Paw held the baby. He perked up when he saw presents (thanks everyone who thought of him) and then got distracted by the remote control to the tv. Towards the end of the visit, when I was snuggling both boys, we had a breakthrough when Connor tried to give the remote to Mannix so he could play with the tv too. Connor then gave Mannix some kisses before leaving. We have so much to look forward to!
Happy Birthday Mannix! We love you!
